As the White House efforts to get Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch confirmed enters a critical stage this week, a non-profit group is spending more than $1 million on a digital advertising campaign to urge senators to vote for the judge and to show support for the Trump administration's policies in general, Politico reported on Tuesday.
The group, Making America Great, is aligned with major Republican donor Rebekah Mercer. It is running the ad nationally, but has allocated increased spending in several of the states where Democratic senators face reelection next year.
The 30-second ad touts the choice of Gorsuch as a fulfillment of one of President Donald Trump's campaign promises and as an important part of the battle against the establishment and liberal media to bring about real change to Washington DC.
"Judge Gorsuch is impeccably qualified to serve on the Supreme Court," Making America Great CEO Emily Cornell told Politico. "Some of our senators' petulant opposition is not in the best interest of our nation, and is contrary to the wishes of their constituency. We welcome the opportunity to give Gorsuch supporters the megaphone they deserve."
The promotion comes just one week after the National Rifle Association launched its own $1 million television campaign urging the confirmation of Gorsuch, the Washington Examiner reported.
That campaign also targeted Democratic senators who are deemed vulnerable in the 2018 elections, because the state they represent was won by Trump last November.
