Several pro-Bernie Sanders Facebook pages were shut down for hours Monday night in what appears to be an attack from Hillary Clinton supporters who posted pornographic images to the sites, then reported them to Facebook.

According to Paste Magazine at least seven groups were affected:
  • Bernie Sanders Activists (40,122 members)
  • Bernie Sanders Is My Hero (60,097 members)
  • Bernie or Bust (16,812 members)
  • Bernie Sanders – Ideas Welcome (33,836 members)
  • Bernie Sanders for President 2016 (117,601 members)
  • Bernie Sanders Revolutionaries
  • Bay Area for Bernie
The attack started about about 9 p.m. Eastern, and the pages were back up just after midnight, according to The Hill.

The pages were filled with pornographic images, then reported to Facebook for obscene content. Facebook's system automatically removes groups or individuals if a certain number of people flag them for inappropriate content.

"We had what looked like a kiddie porn posted in one of our groups today," Sanders supporter Erica Libenow. "I reported that one. Seriously made me want to vomit."

Several websites posted screenshots from a pro-Clinton Facebook group, Bros4Hillary, in which one member appeared to be taking credit for the attack. Bros4Hillary disavowed the member and has shut the page down.

The actions of the individual goes against the group's mission to "Be respectful to others," Bros4Hillary's Political Director Alex Mohajer, told the website Heavy.

"We have not and do not approve of or condone harmful or offensive rhetoric or harassing behavior targeting supporters of any other candidate in the race," Mohajer told Heavy.

"Last night, a former member … decided to engage in harassing behavior toward Facebook groups of Bernie Sanders and posted about it in the B4H Facebook group," he said. "This was not promoted or supported by the leadership of B4H… We removed the offending posts and member as soon as possible."

Correct the Record, a pro-Clinton super PAC run by David Brock, announced an initiative called Barrier Breakers last week to promote Clinton, and several online discussion group's speculated the group could be behind the attacks, The Hill reported. The Bros4Hillary member had recently "liked" the Facebook pages of Correct the Record and Barrier Breakers.

But Elizabeth Shappell, communications director for the group, told The Hill they were not involved.

"Currently, Barrier Breakers is exclusively engaged in positive messaging supporting Hillary Clinton," she said.
