President Donald Trump blasted Princeton University for its decision to remove former President Woodrow Wilson’s name from its buildings.

“Can anyone believe that Princeton just dropped the name of Woodrow Wilson from their highly respected policy center,” Trump tweeted Monday morning. “Now the Do Nothing Democrats want to take off the name John Wayne from an airport. Incredible stupidity!”

On Saturday, the Ivy League school announced it would strip Wilson’s name from its international affairs school as well as a residential building on campus, Politico reports.

Across the country there have been calls to remove monuments and statues and to change names of buildings that have ties to historical figures associated with racism.

Wilson, who served as president from 1913-1921, re-segregated federal government workers. He also served as president of Princeton and prevented Black students from applying to the school, according to Politico.

“The trustees concluded that Woodrow Wilson’s racist thinking and policies make him an inappropriate namesake for a school or college whose scholars, students, and alumni must stand firmly against racism in all its forms,” Princeton’s president Christopher L. Eisgruber said in a statement.

Trump’s tweet also mentioned actor John Wayne, whose name appears on an Orange County airport. Some California Democrats are calling for his name to be removed from the airport because of white supremacist views he expressed in a 1971 Playboy interview, Politico reports.

Trump has taken a strong stance on protecting monuments and statues of American historical figures. The president signed an executive order last week geared toward protecting the monuments from being desecrated by protesters.
