Target's decision to limit the full array of its LGBTQ-themed merchandise to its virtual closet sets the tone for what marketing experts expect will be a "scaled back" Pride Month after the retailer faced a major consumer backlash for offering a full array of controversial swag in stores last year.

Several companies dedicated to displaying their commitment to progressive political viewpoints — especially during June, which has been officially designated as Pride Month — were met with a harsh rebuke from shoppers who called for boycotts and inflicted notable monetary losses.
