Rep. Price: White House Doesn't Want to Know About Obamacare Alternatives

By    |   Monday, 16 December 2013 11:55 AM EST

The White House doesn't want to know about Obamacare alternatives, despite President Barack Obama's words to the contrary, Rep. Tom Price said Monday.

"We've had plans for three or four years that would fundamentally change the healthcare system," the Georgia Republican told "Fox & Friends."

"The fact is, they don't want to talk about the quality of healthcare, accessibility to health care, affordability of healthcare," he said.

President Obama has repeatedly claimed he's open to alternatives to Obamacare but said Republicans don't have anything to offer.

"You got good ideas? Bring them to me," the president said. "I'd be happy to listen. That's not what's happening."

Price, a physician, introduced the Empowering Patients First Act to Congress. He said Republicans had the bill "when the president made his statements early on with Obamacare."

Republicans received no response from the White House after attempting to present alternative healthcare ideas, Price said. He said his bill puts "patients and families and doctors in charge of healthcare, as opposed to Washington, D.C."

"We've actually called him. We've contacted the White House repeatedly. Silence," Price said. "They want the government to control healthcare."
