Trump Thanks Border Security Chief for Wall Support

President Donald Trump tweeted his support for National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd for his statements regarding the need for funds to secure the U.S. southern border with Mexico.

"Thank you to Brandon Judd of the National Border Patrol Council for his strong statement on @foxandfriends that we very badly NEED THE WALL. Must also end loophole of 'catch & release' and clean up the legal and other procedures at the border NOW for Safety & Security reasons," Trump tweeted early Saturday.

Judd appeared Saturday on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" where he explained why Trump's plan for funding the border wall would work.

"All you have to do is look at history – where we've built physical barriers, it's dropped the number of illegal entries exponentially," Judd said.

White House officials released an immigration framework Friday that would provide a pathway to citizenship for as many as 1.8 million Dreamers brought to the U.S. and children who are living here illegally.

Trump is expected to officially announce the plan on Monday which also creates a $25 billion trust fund for border security, including a wall on the southern U.S. border with Mexico.

Democrats railed against Trump's plan. A spokesman for House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., blasted it as part of a "hateful anti-immigrant agenda." And Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham, D-N.M., who chairs the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, said the White House was using DACA recipients "as bargaining chips for sweeping anti-immigrant policies."

Judd, however, countered the arguments by Democrats and explained the need for securing the U.S. borders.

"When you look at securing the border. We're talking about illegal immigration – not legal immigration. There's nothing racist about securing our borders. When the Democrats don't have substance on their side, they scream things like racist," Judd said.

"We have to have the physical barriers, which is going to be expensive. We know that. But we also have to end the loopholes of catch and release," he added. "We have to remove the magnet that are drawing people to cross the border illegally, which is exactly what this plan is calling for."
