The New York Post Monday endorsed President Donald Trump's reelection, saying that he'll put 2020 behind and "make America great again, again" through a return to the "explosive job creation, rising wages, and general prosperity" the nation had before the coronavirus pandemic.

"President Trump will not be looking to remake the country. He will trust that America will, given support but not interference, bounce back," the Post's editors said. "He will, in short, not get in the way. Re-electing him is the best choice for the United States."

The newspaper acknowledged that it does not always approve of Trump's actions on Twitter, and admitted that he's "vainglorious and thin-skinned" and "cannot change," but still he can "be forgiven for being angry" considering how he's been treated by Democrats on Russia and other matters.

"The question is what matters more: words or actions?" the editors said. "In endorsing him, we’re choosing to focus on President Trump’s actions and accomplishments. He has kept his promises."

The editors pointed out that elections are about the economy, but "never more so" than this year.

Before shutdowns earlier this year to fight coronavirus, the national unemployment rate was at 3.5%, the newspaper argued. This was the lowest mark in a half-century, and unemployment among Black Americans was at 6.8%, the lowest since 1972.

Trump made his achievements by trusting the free market and cutting regulations, especially those that were "rammed through" when President Barack Obama was on his way out, said the Post.

"A Joe Biden administration would be beholden to a socialist left that sees an opportunity to remake the nation in its vision, one more dependent on government debt," the editors argued.

Biden would "open the border floodgates" and would return to "normalization' with China, they also said, adding that he would also push for more crippling shutdowns to fight back against COVID.

Trump has also "rolled back the excesses" of previous administrations, said the paper, which also praised Trump's judicial appointments, culminating with the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court.

The president has also "embarrassed the conventional wisdom" on foreign policy, and has been pulling the country out of old wars while not entangling the country in new ones.
