Noted pollster Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight marveled at former Vice President Joe Biden's big South Carolina victory after polls had him slipping to a narrow lead.

Silver tweeted Saturday night:

"Biden went from merely being +4 points or so over Sanders in the SC polling average after New Hampshire to winning by (probably) 20+ tonight. We can debate the implications of that and why it happened, but that's a pretty serious surge and not to be taken lightly."

Silver would later tweet Biden's victory might finish closer to plus 30 points, giving him the overall popular vote lead through the first four states.

First on exit polling:

"Looks like the exit poll has been re-weighted based on actual returns to show Biden at ~51% instead of ~45% as before. Bernie at ~19 or ~20%."

Then on the popular primary vote to date:

"Upshot Needle now has Biden projected to win the South Carolina popular vote by ~130K, which would give him the overall popular vote lead through the first four states."
