Fifty percent of likely voters believe most world leaders see President Donald Trump as weaker than former President Barack Obama, while 37 percent said Trump is stronger than Obama in the eyes of most international leaders, according to a Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey released on Monday.

Six percent said world leaders view both presidents as about the same, while 7 percent were not sure.

Other results from the poll show:

  • Among independents, 35 percent think most international leaders see Trump as stronger, while 49 percent say those leaders see him as weaker.
  • As would be expected, there was a large partisan divide on this question, as 66 percent of Republicans think most world leaders see Trump as stronger than Obama, while 76 percent of Democrats think those leaders see him as weaker.
  • There also was a wide divide among gender, as 31 percent of women believe international leaders see Trump as stronger than Obama and 56 percent think they see him as weaker. Among men, 45 percent believe international leaders see Trump as stronger and 43 percent said these leaders view him as weaker.
  • An age divide also exists, as 30 percent of those under 40 years of age said world leaders see Trump as stronger than Obama, while 55 percent think they see him as weaker. Among those 65 or older, 49 percent said international leaders see Trump as stronger, while 39 percent think those leaders see him as weaker.
  • Among all voters, 37 percent say Trump's relationship with most of the world leaders he has met abroad so far are good or excellent, including just 18 percent who give him excellent marks. Forty percent think the president has a poor relationship with the international leaders he has met.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted Nov. 13-14. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
