President Donald Trump got positive feedback from more than 60 percent of viewers for his first State of the Union address, according to a Politico/Morning Consult poll.

The survey's results:

  • 62 percent rated Trump's performance as "excellent" or "good," compared to 17 percent who thinks the president did a "fair" job, while 20 percent said he did poorly.
  • 35 percent gave Trump an "A."
  • 25 percent gave Trump a "B."
  • 14 percent gave Trump a "C."
  • 13 percent gave Trump a "D."
  • 13 percent gave Trump an "F."

Trump also got high marks for the content of the speech:

  • 63 percent found it optimistic.
  • 63 percent found it presidential.
  • 62 percent found it hopeful.
  • 62 percent found it informative.
  • 58 percent found it engaging.
  • 55 percent found it inspiring.
  • 44 percent said it was entertaining.
  • 48 percent said it was not too long.
  • 28 percent said it was depressing.
  • 27 percent said it was boring.
  • 39 percent said it was too long.

Morning Consult co-founder Kyle Dropp said that overall, 72 percent of voters thought the speech was somewhat or much better than they expected, including 46 percent of Democrats.

Politico reported that in this survey, a higher number than usual of the respondents identified as Republicans — 43 percent said they preferred the GOP, while in the previous poll, only 33 percent said they were Republican.

Two other polls, from CBS and CNN, also showed that voters were pleased with the Tuesday night address.

The Politico/Morning Consult poll consisted of 2,209 Americans 18 or older who said they watched the speech live or after it took place, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
