Key results in the CBS News poll:
- 49 percent of Democrats want Pelosi reelected as speaker.
- 40 percent of Democrats want another Democrat to serve as speaker.
- 75 percent of people surveyed — a group that included Democrats, Republicans, and independents — would prefer that Democrats work with President Donald Trump during the next Congress.
- 52 percent said the Democratic-led House will focus on trying to investigate Trump next year. Forty-two percent said the chamber will try to pass its Democratic agenda.
- 72 percent of Democrats said the outcome of the midterm elections — which saw Democrats take control of the House and Republicans hold onto the Senate — made them optimistic for the next two years. That sentiment was shared by 61 percent of independents and 57 percent of Republicans.
Pelosi, 78, previously served as House speaker from 2007-2011. She is running for another term, but more than a dozen members of her own party are challenging her bid.
