Thirty-six percent of likely Republican voters said the GOP should refuse to seat candidate Roy Moore if he wins the Senate election in Alabama on Tuesday, while 35 percent oppose such a move, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll released on Monday.

Twenty-eight percent of GOP supporters said they were not sure what to do.

The percentage of Republican voters who say the GOP should refuse to seat Moore as a senator if he wins has gone up from 29 percent who said so last month.

Moore faces multiple allegations of harassing young women. Although President Donald Trump has endorsed the candidate, several noted Republicans have distanced themselves from Moore, including Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby.

Other results of the survey show:

  • Among all voters, 47 percent said Republicans should refuse to seat Moore as a senator if he wins, while 29 percent disagree and 25 percent are unsure.
  • Only 29 percent of Republicans think a victory by Moore would be good in the long run for Trump and the Republican Party, while 26 percent said it would be bad and 32 declared it would have no impact. Thirteen percent are undecided.
  • Among all voters, 20 percent said a Moore victory would be good for Trump and his party, while 44 said it would be bad, 21 percent said it would have no impact and 15 percent were not sure.
  • Among men, 27 percent said a Moore victory would be good for the GOP in the long run, while only 14 percent of women agree.
  • Fifty-five percent of voters have an unfavorable opinion of Moore, including 43 percent who have a very unfavorable view, according to a poll in November. Only 22 percent had a favorable view of him.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted on Dec. 6-7. The margin of sampling error is 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
