Nearly 9 in 10 Americans favor protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, but 48 percent say it's not worth shutting down the government over them, according to the latest CBS News poll.

Overall, 87 percent of Americans are in favor of amnesty for DACA recipients who meet requirements, including 79 percent of Republicans, according to CBS.

But those surveyed differ on whether DACA is worth shutting down the federal government.

Those results, according to CBS:

  • 46 percent overall say it's worth risking a shutdown over DACA.
  • 57 percent of Democrats say DACA is worth shutting down the government.
  • 68 percent of Republicans say DACA is not worth a shutdown.
  • 48 percent of Independents say it's worth a shutdown.
  • 46 percent of Independents say DACA is not worth a shutdown.

Regarding a border wall along Mexico, 61 percent overall are against building it, though 68 percent of Republicans are in favor of the wall.

However, just 51 percent of Republicans think it's worth shutting down the government over funding for the wall; 42 percent are against it.

Further, 85 percent overall think the U.S. will ultimately pay for the wall, instead of Mexico, including 76 percent of Republicans.

This poll was conducted by telephone Jan. 13-16 among a random sample of 1,225 adults nationwide with a sampling error of +/- 3 percentage points.
