The results of a new poll show the majority of Americans did not support the job former FBI Director James Comey was doing before he was fired.
A Harvard-Harris poll conducted for The Hill found that Comey had a 40 percent approval rating and a 60 percent disapproval rating.
The survey also gave President Donald Trump a 45 percent approval rating and a 55 percent disapproval rating.
Trump fired Comey two weeks ago because he was "not doing a good job." Democrats and other Trump critics have accused Trump of trying to squash the FBI's investigation into whether his campaign colluded with Russia last year.
Other findings from the Harvard-Harris poll:
- Comey's favorability rating was 31 percent positive and 39 percent negative.
- 70 percent disapproved of Comey's handling of the investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's email scandal.
- 65 percent said Comey should not have held last summer's press conference during which he made the case for charges to be brought against Clinton before recommending charges not be filed.
- 54 percent opposed Trump's decision to fire Comey.
Comey will testify in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee sometime after Memorial Day. Lawmakers are expected to grill him on what he knows about the Trump probe and whether the president asked him to drop the investigation.
