Sixty-one percent of Americans believe President Donald Trump's promise to build a U.S.-Mexico border wall is not worth shutting down the government, according to a Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday.

On a list of priorities that voters believed would be important enough to trigger a government shutdown, the border wall was the voters' lowest priority.

More funding for homeland security was the voters' highest priority, here are the results:

  • Increase funding for defense and homeland security: 47 percent.
  • Continue cost-sharing payments to health insurance companies: 42 percent.
  • Health benefits for retired coal miners: 35 percent.
  • Deportation task force: 33 percent.
  • Decrease funding for domestic programs: 32 percent.
  • Fund Planned Parenthood: 29 percent.
  • Fund sanctuary cities: 28 percent.
  • Funding border wall: 27 percent.

Breaking down the results among party lines, Republicans were more accepting of the idea of shutting the government down over wall funding.

  • Republicans: 40 percent.
  • Democrats: 19 percent.
  • Independents: 21 percent.

Fifty-one percent of Republicans said funding the border wall not worth a government shutdown.

On Monday, Trump said funding for the wall could wait until September.

The poll was conducted from April 20 - 24 among 2,032 registered voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
