Leaked documents reveal the Democratic National Committee was intentional about obscuring details of Hillary Clinton's joint fundraising deal with states that left them with a pittance of the money raised, Politico
The Hillary Victory Fund has raised $142 million since its creation in September, and while 44 percent of those monies raised have benefited the DNC and Clinton, only $800,000 has been funneled to state parties, according to Politico.
Though they defend the arrangement, the DNC went to great strides to hide the details of the deal that validated concerns of watchdog groups and criticisms of Bernie Sanders campaign supporters, Politico reports.
An email sent by DNC Deputy Communications Director Eric Walker, said: The party should not "discuss funding allocations in the press for the RNC to see what we're doing," according to Politico.
On the allocation of the $142 million:
- Hillary for America $37.6 million;
- DNC $24.4 million;
- Direct marketing vendors working for Clinton campaign were paid $38 million;
- $4.1 million to expenses;
- State parties $800,000;
- Hillary Victory Fund had $42 million in the bank at the end of June.
It's bad optics for a candidate who fought against criticism of being funded by Wall Street and foreign donors, making it now seem she used states to pay in for her run.
"The extent to which the game has been rigged goes much deeper at the DNC than what many of us expected," one state operative told Politico.
