Texas Sen. Ted Cruz says the conservative Drudge Report has become a backer of his GOP White House rival Donald Trump – and a Politico analysis of Drudge's headlines says he's right.

Politico looked at more than 300 Drudge banners from 2016 and found that the site often pushes Trump's narrative, and sometimes mocks Cruz. That's a change from 2015, Politico said, when Drudge appeared more ambivalent toward Trump.

Drudge has "gone all in on Trump" this year, Politico said, ranging from a link in the banner to a live Trump rally in early January to "full-spectrum treatment of the 'firestorm' and 'fury' regarding the nominating process in Colorado this past weekend — which Trump claimed was 'rigged'" in favor of Cruz."

Matt Drudge's site doesn't typically write stories, but does link to them, with the biggest story of the moment in the banner – sometimes with a flashing red siren.

"When we win a state, suddenly the state doesn't matter," Cruz said recently. "You know Colorado — there was no red siren on Drudge when we won all 34 delegates in Colorado."

Drudge has been quick to blast Cruz while sweeping aside Trump's problems. When Trump angered conservatives saying women should be held legally culpable if abortion becomes illegal, Drudge went instead with Democrat Bernie Sanders having trouble getting on the D.C. ballot. When Trump didn't quickly enough distance himself from white supremacist supporters, Drudge focused on Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions' endorsement.

When Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski was charged with simple battery on a Breitbart reporter, Drudge noted that the prosecutor was a Hillary Clinton supporter.

Drudge also has backed Trump's position on the delegate selection process, which he has called rigged. Drudge noted that "200 people could decide" Trump's fate.
