Joe Biden, the Democratic Party's presumptive presidential nominee, is experiencing dwindling support from police groups amid the nationwide protests and the perceived lack of support he has shown to law enforcement.

According to Politico, the former vice president is drawing criticism from law enforcement groups and unions, some of which are leaving him behind.

"Clearly, he's made a lot of changes the way candidates do during the primary process, but he kept moving left and fell off the deep end," National Association of Police Organizations Executive Director Bill Johnson told Politico.

"For Joe Biden, police are shaking their heads because he used to be a stand-up guy who backed law enforcement. But it seems in his old age, for whatever reason, he's writing a sad final chapter when it comes to supporting law enforcement."

Jim Pasco, the executive director of the Fraternal Order of Police, said: "There are two evolutions in two directions. On law-and-order issues, Biden was right of center: the '94 crime bill, the Brady Law, and enhanced penalties. But as time has gone by, his positions have moderated, moderated, moderated to where we are today, where he would not be considered a law-and-order guy in the sense that law enforcement sees it."

Following months of laying low because of the coronavirus, Biden spoke on Tuesday and called for police reforms. His words came in the wake of last week's killing of a black man in Minneapolis by a white police officer, who has been charged with second-degree murder. Protests have erupted across the country because of the incident.

Biden urged "Congress to act this month" and suggested that lawmakers on Capitol Hill begin "with real police reform." He also expressed support for banning law enforcement's use of choke holds.
