The Republican Party's favorability numbers are at the lowest point since 1992, with 62 percent of Americans having a negative view of the Grand Old Party, according to a newly released poll by the Pew Research Center.

Only 33 percent view the party favorably.

In a contentious anti-establishment election year, Republicans have had an unfavorability problem for some time. But the new numbers are a slide even from last October when 58 percent had a negative view to 37 positive.

The Democratic Party's numbers are closer, with 50 percent unfavorable to 45 percent favorable. Those numbers are virtually unchanged from October.

The poll also found that Republican voters have a far more unfavorable view of their own party than do Democrats. Only 68 percent of Republicans view their own party favorably compared to 88 percent of Democrats who do.

The poll was conducted April 12-19 and talked to 2,008 adults. The total sample has a plus-or-minus margin of error of 2.5 percentage points.
