Rep. Pete King, R-N.Y., said Friday he expects a memo that reportedly contains details about government surveillance and the Trump campaign could be available to the public in about two weeks.

The memo was written by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and has been the subject of much scrutiny in recent weeks as it relates to the Russia investigation, which is probing whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. Republicans want it made public, but there is a process for making the top secret document declassified from the House Intelligence Committee.

"Under the rules to make it public, we have to actually vote it out of the Intelligence Committee and ask to have it made public," King said on Fox News. "Then it gets sent to the president of the United States and he gets five days to decide if it should be public or not public.

"I would think that the committee, certainly Republicans, we're in majority, we'll vote to have it made public, and I would expect the president would go along with it."

King added that the memo could be declassified and made public in 10-12 days. He said the document proves mistakes were made when the government obtained a FISA warrant to surveil the Trump campaign. Some have charged that a scandalous, unverified dossier about Trump was used to secure the warrant.

"This shows to me either very serious mistakes, very serious negligence, or intentionally not complying with the rules as to what has to be done to begin an investigation, to have certain procedures followed," King said.

"I can't go into detail other than saying that as I read this, there was no basis at all for having the type of investigation that was conducted by the federal government, by the FBI. There was not enough evidence there and I wish I could go further than that. When the memo comes out, you'll see."
