House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Sunday called the Senate resolution to change the rules to allow for lawmakers to dismiss articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump a “coverup.”

In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Pelosi decried Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s backing of the Thursday resolution.

“Very unusual that the leader of the Senate… has signed on to a resolution to dismiss the case,” she said.

“Dismissing is a coverup,” she declared.

Changing the rules would either require a two-thirds vote or for Republicans to deploy the "nuclear" option.

Pelosi said Senators will ultimately be held accountable by voters should they dismiss the impeachment, and “for not having a fair trial.”

She also said there’s precedent for allowing witnesses to come forward in an impeachment trial.

“[President Bill] Clinton allowed witnesses to come forward,” she noted. “President Trump has prevented that from happening."

But she doesn’t want to wait for the court to rule on the matter, noting that might take too long.

“We have confidence in our case,” she said, adding she’d be “consulting” with Democrats in the House on Tuesday on voting to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate.

And she seemed to leave open the possibility the House will subpoena former national security adviser John Bolton if the Senate doesn’t — and doesn’t rule out that the House could bring new articles of impeachment.

“It's not excluded,” she said of the Bolton subpoena, but said: “we'll see what [Senators] do. But we do think there's enough evidence to remove the president from office."

“We think the American people have been very fair in saying, ‘yes we do want to see witnesses,’” she said. “That wasn’t part of the discussion three weeks ago.”
