President Donald Trump called out two female reporters who are part of the White House press corps in a new interview, calling one "angry" and mentioning a television housewife from the 1950s.
During an Oval Office interview with the New York Post, Trump referenced Weijia Jiang and Paula Reid of CBS News.
"It wasn't Donna Reed, I can tell you that," Trump said. Donna Reed starred in the sitcom named after her in the 1950s and 1960s and also played Mary Hatch Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life." She played a housewife in both roles.
"Paula Reid, she's sitting there and I say, 'How angry. I mean, What's the purpose?' They're not even tough questions, but you see the attitude of these people, it's like incredible," Trump added.
"So you know, I enjoyed it."
Trump's comments were in regards to the daily White House Coronavirus Task Force press briefings that took place for several weeks. The White House ended the daily updates last week, but Trump said they will be back in some form.
"You know, we didn't stop them. I mean, this is breaking, but we didn't stop them," he said. "Because we'll probably do maybe one a week, sometimes two depending on the news."
Trump added that his new press secretary Kayleigh McEnany is "going to be able to do them."
"We'll do them. We get a lot of people watching, and it's the way that you get around fake news. In other words, I have a much bigger audience than anybody's ever had."
