Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, R-Wis., called reports of the latest chemical attack in Syria "a horror that cannot be tolerated by responsible nations" and "an international effort" must "hold the Assad regime and Russia accountable."
Ryan's tweet echoed the comments of myriad lawmakers Sunday, including ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ben Cardin, D-Md., who admitted proving responsibility for the attack was made more difficult by Syria President Bashar al Assad's closing off of the affected area.
President Donald Trump also tweeted three times Sunday morning on the Syrian culpability in the attacks, saying there was a "big price to pay" and 'President [Vladimir] Putin, Russia, and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad."
