House Speaker Paul Ryan said Sunday he's seen nothing to support President Donald Trump's tweeted claim that he was wiretapped by former President Barack Obama during the election, suggesting the allegation was made out of frustration.

In an interview on CBS News' "Face The Nation," Ryan said what the president tweets is "outside of my control."

"I think he is frustrated with this whole thing about Russia, and I think he is frustrated with what selective leaks coming from parts of government that malign his campaign."

But asked point-blank if he's seen any evidence that Obama had Trump wiretapped, Ryan declared: "No."

"I don't,  I don't want to get ahead of the intelligence committees [in the House and Senate] and their thorough investigation," he said.

Ryan said the committees are "the proper place for this."

"And, by the way, we’ve been presented with no evidence that anybody, any American was in collusion with the Russians on meddling with our election," he said. "We know the Russians meddled with our election. We said so before the election…

"And I think if — when we get through all of this investigation, I think we will discover that they didn’t do those things, but Russia did try to meddle with our elections."
