House Speaker Paul Ryan and Donald Trump's senior adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, ate together at the Capitol Hill Club Wednesday night, according to Politico Playbook.

Staff members were not present during Ryan and Kushner's dinner at the private Republican hangout, Politico notes.

Kushner and Ryan could be "a potent pair" in the Trump administration's work, since Ryan is an experienced lawmaker and Kushner is a presidential confidant, writer Anna Palmer said.

Trump has recently offered praise for Ryan, although they had a contentious relationship during Trump's presidential campaign.

"He's out writing legislation… he never had it so good. He's actually got somebody that's going to sign it… I just want to let the world know, we're doing very well together," Trump said on Jan. 19.

The president has said Kushner could help make peace in the Middle East, according to Haaretz.

Palmer pointed out one hazard in Ryan and Kushner's work together: Some Republican circles regard Kushner as a rookie who will soon make mistakes.
