House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., favors the release of a memo, drafted by Democratic lawmakers, designed to counter a Republican document about alleged surveillance abuses at the Department of Justice, The Hill is reporting.

"The speaker is in favor of greater transparency," Ryan's spokeswoman Ashlee Strong told the website. "If it is scrubbed to ensure it does not reveal sources and methods of our intelligence gathering, the speaker supports the release of the Democrats' memo."

The House Intelligence Committee voted to make the GOP memo public.

The 10-page Democratic memo rebuts the GOP memo and also goes after Republican Rep. Devin Nunes, the committee chairman, who helped author the Republican document, CNN is reporting.

The Democrat's memo says the GOP paper is an attempt to help the White House with the Russia probe, according to the news network.
