Mitt Romney and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan — the GOP's 2012 presidential candidate and his vice presidential running mate — are teaming up at separate fundraisers next month for former campaign staffer Barbara Comstock.
Comstock
is vying for the northern Virginia congressional seat being vacated by Republican Rep. Frank Wolf. She faces Democrat John Foust in the fall.
The Northern Virginia seat is a top target of both parties this fall, and is expected to be one of the most expensive in the nation,
The Washington Post reports.
Romney will be at the fundraiser Sept. 30 at the home of longtime GOP donor Bobbie Kilberg, chief executive of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, and her husband, Bill Kilberg.
Kilberg hosted a fundraiser for Romney at her home early in the 2012 Republican primaries, The Post noted.
The Hill reports Comstock — who also was a onetime staffer for Wolf — has raised more than $1.3 million since she got in the race in early 2014.
Foust has kept pace in part, The Hill reports, "because of his ability to self-fund."
Ryan, meanwhile, will be at a Comstock fundraiser Sept. 9, which, The Post reports, is expected to attract other alumni of the 2012 presidential campaign, including chief of staff Matthew Rhoades, political director Rich Beeson, adviser and spokesman Kevin Madden, and lawyer Benjamin Ginsberg.
Romney has been busy on the campaign trail this year, raising money for New Hampshire Senate candidate
Scott Brown, Virginia Senate candidate
Ed Gillespie, and the
New Jersey Republican Party.
He also backed Rep.
Mike Simpson for reelection in Idaho, Gov.
Matt Mead for re-election in Wyoming and state Sen.
Joni Ernst's run for U.S. Senate in Iowa.
