By    |   Sunday, 07 June 2015 09:30 PM

GOP presidential candidate George Pataki said his experience as New York governor during 9/11 shows he can handle extreme situations.

"If the heat gets turned up in the kitchen, I’m not going to melt," he said Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.

Pataki told host John Catsimatidis that the United States is at greater risk today than at any time since September 11th of another terrorist attack.

He has two sons who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and said he understands how parents of military members feel.

"I know what it’s like for a parent to lie awake in the middle of the night when your child is in harm’s way," he said. "I don’t want to put one American life at risk … unless it’s absolutely necessary."
