There are too many instances of powerful men using their positions to intimidate or exploit women, Sen. Pat Toomey said Wednesday, calling for an end to a practice that allows congressional funding to be used by members of Congress to pay settlements reached in cases of sexual misconduct.

"That's completely unacceptable," the Pennsylvania Republican told Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo. " I had no idea any such thing even occurred. I don't know how it could occur but to the extent that it does, it's completely unacceptable and it has to end."

Toomey also spoke about tax reform legislation, noting a big step was taken on Tuesday with the Senate Budget Committee passing the measure so it can be brought to the floor.

"We can do that I think as early as today," Toomey said. "We might very well have a procedural vote which will allow us to begin consideration on the Senate floor."

Under Senate rules, the bill will be open to unlimited amendments, he continued, and many are expected, both to build up the bill and to tear it down.

"I think we're on a path to getting this done," Toomey told Bartiromo. "We've been meeting, very long marathon meetings, with the folks who've raised the genuine concerns that they have on our side."

Republicans are finding ways to address the concerns, he continued, including adding a trigger to the bill that will allow taxes to go back up again if the bill does not bring the economic growth expected.

Toomey said he does not like the idea of trigger, suggested by Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., who said they're needed to protect the country from economic loss.

"We've got a provision that we're going to work out the details," Toomey said. "It'll take a look six years from now and determine whether or not we are at the revenue projections that we have been making today, based on the current policy of the federal government."
