Pat Robertson: Issue 'Blanket Pardon' on Probe to 'Shut This Thing Down'

President Donald Trump should issue a blanket pardon of everyone involved in special counsel Robert Mueller's probe because, "This whole thing has got to be shut down," television evangelist Pat Robertson said Monday.

Trump "can grant a pardon to everybody involved in this thing if he wants to, and there's no such thing as the president obstructing justice if he talks to one of his people in the Justice Department. They're part of the administration's force" and under his umbrella according to the Constitution, Robertson said on his "700 Club" program.

Trump, he said, "has every right to shut Mueller down and say, 'You have gone as far as you need to, and I have instructed my Justice Department to close you down,' He can do it, and he can also grant a blanket pardon for everybody involved in everything and say, 'I pardon them all, case closed, it's all over.' I think that is what he needs to do. He's got to shut this thing down, he's just got to."

Robertson's comments come in the wake of an indictment of two former Trump campaign officials, his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and associate Rick Gates on money laundering charges unrelated to their efforts in the campaign.

Manafort is an "easy target" for the probe, Robertson said, because he obviously accepted "huge amounts" of money from Russian interests, and likely failed to properly register as a foreign agent.

"So there's a technical violation that they can get him on," Robertson said.

Citing his own law school training, Robertson said that when a source is tainted, everything that comes out of it is also tainted.

"That Fusion GPS dossier is tainted," he said. "And the source of the money coming from the Democratic Party makes it tainted. It isn't a clear, independent dossier."

Fusion GPS funded a former British spy's dossier on Trump during the campaign. Much of its contents, especially salacious portions, have never been verified. It was revealed last week that the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee funded the work after the conservative website Washington Free-Beacon, which had first commissioned it, stopped paying.

Robertson said that Mueller's continuing probe is a "distraction" keeping Trump from doing the nation's business.

"We are faced with crucial things around the world. We have several areas of conflict that he's got to deal with," he said. "And we have huge matters at home that have got to get our nation moving."
