Impeachment is going to be a guiding issue to make the November midterm elections "nationalized," much to the dismay of Democratic pollster Pat Caddell.

"I'm not sure this is an ordinary midterm, any more than 2016 was an ordinary presidential election," Caddell told "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y. "I believe we have yet to see this election engaged. It should be a national election. It's going to be nationalized. One of the issues is going to be impeachment.

"I don't think that anyone in politics doesn't believe that if the Democrats win the House they will make an effort to impeach the president. A lot of the candidates are already on record as for that."

Doing so would be a mistake, Caddell, an adviser for former President Jimmy Carter, said, citing polls which show even those sour on President Trump "are really negative on the idea of impeachment and tying the country up for two years."

"Rasmussen had a poll that showed 2-1 [voters believe impeachment] would hurt the economy, which is doing quite well in their eyes," Caddell told host John Catsimatidis.

"The Democratic Party, which seems to have deserted the center, is moving ever further to the left, being pulled by their presidential candidates. I think we're in for quite a while ride in the next 60 days or so."

Democrats should be focused on their agenda going forward, not looking back to undo the mistakes of 2016 and having our "government tied up in an effort to oust the elected president," Caddell said.

"I think Americans, fundamentally, do not want to see constitutional processes weaponized as part of a political opposition: 'We've got to get rid of someone we do not like,'" Caddell told Catsimatidis. "If 2016 wasn't an ordinary presidential election, I'm really having an instinct that this election . . . will also not follow ordinary patterns."
