Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, weighed in Monday on the controversy over allegations of sexual misconduct by Roy Moore, the Republican senator candidate in Alabama.

Hatch recommended Luther Strange, the sitting Alabama Republican senator who lost a runoff to Moore, as an "alternative" to Moore's candidacy for the Alabama Senate.

Hatch made the comment Monday in a tweet:

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said Monday he believed the women who accused Moore and that Moore should "step aside."

The Washington Post reported that a woman accused Moore of initiating a sexual encounter with her in 1979, when he was 32 and she was 14. The report also contained claims from other women, who were also teens at the time of the incidents.

Strange on Thursday called the Washington Post report "very, very disturbing," according to The Hill.
