National security adviser Robert O’Brien said on Sunday China has been more transparent on the fast-spreading coronavirus outbreak than it has been on previous crises, but still hasn’t accepted an offer of help in the epidemic from the United States.
In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” O’Brien said “right now the Chinese are providing information to us and we’re taking that for what it’s worth.”
“So far the Chinese have been more transparent certainly than in past crises and we appreciate that,” he added, but noted:
“We have not heard back yet from the Chinese” on U.S. offers to send medical and health professionals, he said. “But we are prepared to continue to cooperate with them.”
According to O’Brien, “There’s no reason for Americans to panic.”
O’Brien also weighed in on the explosive leak of excerpts from John Bolton’s upcoming memoir that bolstered the House impeachment charges against President Donald Trump.
“I’m very confident that the leaks of that book did not come from the [National Security Council],” he said.
