President Donald Trump accused his predecessor of being part of an effort to discredit him and ultimately force his removal from office in a series of tweets over the weekend.
Trump tweeted "Obamagate" multiple times in a dig at former President Barack Obama, who he said tried to prevent Trump from winning the 2016 election in the final months of his administration.
"OBAMAGATE!" Trump tweeted Sunday afternoon.
He later responded to another tweet with a graphic that contained a photo of Obama and text that read, "First ex-president to speak against successor."
"He got caught, OBAMAGATE!" Trump wrote.
Trump also retweeted several graphics containing the phrase "Obamagate."
Trump has stepped up his attacks on the Obama administration in recent days after the Department of Justice dropped all charges against Trump's former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The FBI appeared to have tried to entrap Flynn and ultimately accused him of lying to federal agents. Flynn had been under fire for conversations he had with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. during Trump's transition period.
Trump and his supporters have long accused Obama of playing a role in what they say was an attempt by some members of the U.S. intelligence community to prevent him from becoming president.
