Republicans on Obamacare Failures: 'We Told You So'

By    |   Monday, 08 July 2013 12:09 PM EDT

As President Barack Obama's signature healthcare reform effort evolves into what one member of his own party described as a "train wreck," harsh critics of the law are saying something along the lines of, "I told you so."

Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn of Texas tweeted a list to his followers of "Obamacare’s Dirty Dozen Implementation Failures," including last week's revelations that employer mandates and income checks for subsidies won't go into effect until after the 2014 midterm elections, the Washington Times reports.

The list — originally compiled by the Heritage Foundation — included the repeal of the long-term care program called Class Act, missed deadlines for numerous initiatives, state rejections of Medicaid program expansions, and the under enrollment and high cost of high-risk coverage programs.

The office of Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky tweeted on Monday that Americans should “get used” to these and other failures.

The reaction comes in response to the administration's announcements last week on delays in the implementation of key areas of the Affordable Care Act. Democrat Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, originally one of the act's most vociferous supporters, warned in April that Obamacare's implementation would be a "huge train wreck" because of the administration's failure to explain its provisions.
