President Urges Money and Time Donations to 'Team Obamacare'

President Barack Obama is using the troubled rollout of the healthcare.gov website to raise cash and volunteers from his support base, according to The Daily Caller.

"By now, you've probably heard that the website has not worked as smoothly as it was supposed to," he said in an email sent out Tuesday that included a video appeal for contributions to Organizing for Action, a group that lobbies on behalf of his agenda.

Story continues below.

"The other side will spend millions to maintain the status quo," he says in the pitch, which includes a link to a fundraising page that reads, "They're outspending us on Obamacare.
The other side has already spent $400 million in anti-Obamacare TV ads. We don’t have to beat that, but we need to have the resources to fight back."

In the video, Obama appeals to supporters to donate their time.

"I’m asking you to be a part of Team Obamacare. We won’t be able to reach everyone who deserves the safety and security of affordable health insurance without you," he said, adding, "Fortunately, that’s what you do best, organizing. I’m asking you to help tell your friends, families, coworkers, classmates, neighbors and anyone else about what the Affordable Care Act can mean for them."

The president also offers assurances that the website glitches will be worked out.

"We’ve got people working overtime in a tech surge to boost capacity and address the problem, and we’re going to get it fixed," he says.

He called on his supporters to join the White House in helping to enroll people in Obamacare by telephone and through personal visits. He also encouraged the use of Twitter and Facebook to drum up interest and more support for the new healthcare program that still aims to provide insurance coverage to all of the nation's uninsured.

Organizing for Action has been pushing events and social media campaigns on behalf of Obamacare. But it plans to kick off a new effort on Nov. 4, when it will host a summit in Washington with founding members, volunteers, and partner groups to strategize about the best ways of boosting enrollment in Obamacare over the next several months.
