President Barack Obama has broken a pledge he made during the 2008 campaign to go through the federal budget "line by line" to find savings, House Republicans say. And they aren’t happy about it,
The Hill reports.
House Energy and Commerce Investigations subcommittee Chairman Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., and other Republicans on the committee said there’s no evidence that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has performed the thorough investigation promised by Obama.
The $17 billion in savings that the OMB discovered represented 50 percent of what the Bush administration found, Stearns said.
Obama’s review is no different from normal, the Republicans say. And he exaggerated any savings that was found by including tax increases and savings from spending reductions on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, they say.
