Marie Harf, a former Obama administration official, said "there's nothing magic" about President Donald Trump's reference to "radical Islamic terrorism" in his speech before Congress.

"I'd also point out that President Trump's new national security adviser has specifically said he doesn't like that terminology because it alienates a lot of people that we actually need to work with us in defeating ISIS," Harf, a former State Department spokeswoman, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"You know in the Obama administration we had a strategy in place — it's the strategy they're still operating under by the way," she said. "We went really aggressively after ISIS.

"President Obama took more terrorists off the battlefield than any other president in U.S. history. I know a lot of people were waiting for those three magic words, but I don't think they signify a shift in strategy — at least not one that was outlined last night."

Republicans claim Obama hurt the effort by not acknowledging that radical Islam was behind the terrorist threat, the Washington Examiner noted.

They claim he could not effectively fight an enemy he refused to identify, according to the website.
