New York billionaire businessman and radio host John Catsimatidis is reportedly "soul searching" over the weekend to decide whether to enter the city's mayoral race.
The supermarket and real estate mogul, who ran unsuccessfully for the GOP mayoral nod in 2013, is expected to announce his decision Sunday night or Monday morning, Politico reported, citing an unnamed source.
According to Politico, nearly a dozen friends and consultants attended Catsimatidis' "soul searching weekend" event, concluding he could easily win the GOP nomination, but face an uphill battle in the general election against incumbent Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio.
One concern among attendees was whether Catsimatidis might be tied to President Donald Trump, who is unpopular in the city and to whom Catsimatidis contributed.
No other possible GOP contenders in the race — including former New York City Police Department Bo Dietl and real estate developer Paul Massey – were not considered unbeatable challenges to Catsimatidis, according to Politico.
