Billionaire Rubio Donor: Hillary Announced Early to Upstage Rubio

By    |   Monday, 13 April 2015 04:52 PM

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton moved up her campaign announcement to one day before Sen. Marco Rubio's in an effort to upstage him, says Norman Braman, a Miami billionaire helping to bankroll Rubio's presidential campaign.

Rubio announced his White House intentions to donors early Monday, with an official event set for late Monday afternoon in Miami. Clinton made her announcement via social media on Sunday, though early talk had been that she would wait until summer.

"I think that Marco Rubio represents the greatest opportunity for us to win this election," Braman said Monday on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto."

"I don't think it's a coincidence that Hillary decided at the last moment to make her announcement yesterday to take the play away from Marco Rubio."

Clinton and the Democratic Party likely have extensive polling and understand that Rubio would be the most formidable Republican opponent, he said.

As a first-generation U.S. citizen, Rubio appeals to Hispanics and others seeking the American dream, Braman said.

"He is the man for our times," he said. "Marco Rubio, a candidate of tomorrow, and I honestly believe the Bushes and the Clintons are the candidates of yesterday."
