Gingrich: Cruz Naming Fiorina VP 'Doesn't Make Sense'

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says it doesn't make much sense for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to name Carly Fiorina his vice presidential running mate when he hasn't even won the GOP presidential nomination.

"You don’t start thinking about the vice presidential nominee till you have the delegates," Gingrich said Tuesday night on "Hannity" after Cruz had just lost in five states to front-runner Donald Trump.

Cruz made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

"The idea that the guy who's losing is now gonna announce his vice presidential nominee doesn't make any sense at all to me," Gingrich said. "It makes it look like the person's out of touch with reality. I mean, aren't they aware of the fact that they're not winning?"

Cruz no longer has a chance to win enough delegates before the convention and is relying on a strategy of preventing Trump from reaching the magic number of 1,237 delegates as well. He's been wrangling delegates already won by Trump in hopes of having them switch their votes to him on a second ballot.
