New Zealand's foreign ministry has censured its deputy high commissioner to the United States over a tweet referring to the U.S. Democratic Party, The New York Times reported.

Carolina Beresford posted a tweet in response to a column in The Hill that said Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., as a Democratic ticket could do well in the 2020 presidential election.

"No it couldn't… please get your **** together or we will all die," Beresford wrote in a tweet that have since been deleted, the Times reported.

Beresford has since made her Twitter account private.

Minutes before Beresford sent the tweet, she wrote another one saying, "They have learned nothing," the newspaper noted.

New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said there were "very clear expectations of staff" to maintain "political neutrality" in expressing their opinions, the Times noted.

"The ministry does not in any way endorse the content or tone of the tweets, which we note were deleted."

Some Democrats are concerned that Sanders and Warren on a presidential ticket would deter more moderate Democrats from supporting them, the Times reported.
