Thirty-six percent of Americans say they will definitely or probably vote for Donald Trump if he runs for president again in 2020, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll reveals.

Here are highlights from the poll released Wednesday:

  • 52 percent said they will definitely or probably vote for the Democratic presidential candidate if Trump runs for re-election in 2020;
  • 41 percent approve of the job Trump is doing as president, compared to 56 percent who disapprove;
  • 37 percent have positive feelings toward him; 54 percent have negative feelings and 9 percent are neutral;
  • 40 percent believe Trump has made the economy better; 21 percent said he has made it worse and 35 percent say he has not made much difference;
  • 28 percent say he has made America’s standing in the world better; 53 percent believe he has made it worse and 18 percent say he has not made much difference;
  • 17 percent believe he has made things better in bringing the nation together; 57 percent said he has made it worse and 25 percent say he has not made much difference;
  • 24 percent say Trump’s tax plan is a good idea, while 41 percent believe it is a bad idea.

The NBC/WSJ poll was conducted Dec. 13-15 of 900 adults — about half reached via cell phone — and it has an overall margin of error of 3.3 percentage points
