Joe Biden identified who he wants to serve on his national security team if he becomes president earlier this week. But, he is yet to name his pick for defense secretary.
The Washington Post reports that longtime defense expert Michèle Flournoy is likely the frontrunner for the role.
If Biden nominates the Pentagon veteran to the position, she would become the Defense Department’s first woman leader.
On Monday, Biden named Antony Blinken as his pick for secretary of state, Jake Sullivan for national security adviser, Alejandro Mayorkas for homeland security secretary, Linda Thomas-Greenfield as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and Avril Haines for director of national intelligence.
