House Minority leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi, on Thursday, blasted Stephen Bannon's appointment to the National Security Council, and called him a "white supremacist," according to The Hill.
"It's a stunning thing that a white supremacist, Bannon, would be a permanent member of the National Security Council," the California Democrat said about President Donald Trump's senior adviser.
Pelosi remarked on Trump's removal Saturday of the director of national intelligence and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from the National Security Council's principals committee, and putting Bannon on the panel. Those officials will only be asked to join the panel on "issues pertaining to their responsibilities and expertise."
"What's making America less safe is to have a white supremacist named to the National Security Council as a permanent member while the chairman of the joint chiefs and the director of national intelligence are told, 'Don't call us, we'll call you,'" Pelosi said.
The congresswoman has been critical of Bannon, a former executive at Breitbart News, before. Just after the election, she urged then-Vice President-elect Mike Pence to get Trump to remove Bannon, the Hill reported.
On Wednesday, the day before Pelosi's comments, Florida Rep. Stephanie Murphy echoed Pelosi's criticism of Bannon by introducing legislation that would remove Bannon from the council.
