House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi Thursday called on Speaker Paul Ryan to call Congress into session amid news reports that the U.S. is prepared to strike North Korea to keep it from firing a nuclear test this weekend.
"Every day, the president gives Congress reason to return and debate the use of force," the California Democrat said in a statement. "The president's escalation in Syria and his saber-rattling on North Korea demand serious and immediate congressional scrutiny."
NBC News reported Thursday that the U.S. is ready to use conventional weapons on Pyongyang if officials believe dictator Kim Jong Un fires a ballistic missile or tests a nuclear device this weekend.
"Speaker Ryan must call Congress back into session for classified briefings and debate," Pelosi said. "Congress must do its duty and honor our responsibility to the Constitution."
