Bernie Sanders supporters are very enthusiastic, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday, but she believes most will eventually come over to support Hillary Clinton for the White House.
The California Democrat said she's spoken to many of those delegates from her own state, which has a large number of Sanders supporters, and she told MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell
she thinks most of them are "enthusiastically" supporting Clinton now.
"Some, not as enthusiastic, but they are supporting Hillary Clinton," said Pelosi. "Some just need more time. And if they don't arrive there, then we can't go as slow as that slower ship. The bandwagon is leaving and with great enthusiasm."
She predicted, though, that when Clinton is nominated in Tuesday night's roll call there will be a "thunderous response."
Pelosi said she also spoke with several other delegations on Tuesday, and she believes the shift toward Clinton is coming not only in her home state, but in other states' delegates as well.
"It takes time for a person who has worked in a campaign with all the enthusiasm for a candidate to come over," said Pelosi of the Sanders delegates. "It's easier for the candidate to make that decision."
She said she also does not think the scandal behind the leaked Democratic National Committee's emails or the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz will affect delegates' decisions to back Clinton.
"With all due respect to the Democratic National Convention, I don't think it matters to most people who the chair of the committee is," Pelosi said. "What matters is what the vision is of our candidate for president and how that affects them and their lives ... what's important and consequential is Hillary Clinton will be not only the first woman, but one of the best-qualified people to enter that Oval Office."
But her sources have reported to her Russia was behind the hacking of the DNC's email system, and there is "no question about that."
"What they did with the information and what they're doing with the Republicans, I have no knowledge of," said Pelosi. "But somebody dumped it during this convention, so it serves somebody's purpose."
