House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi cheered the GOP's decision to cancel Friday's vote on the bill that would have replaced Obamacare.
Minutes after House Speaker Paul Ryan spoke to reporters in the Capitol and explained why he and President Donald Trump decided to scrap Friday's scheduled vote, Pelosi stood in front of another group of media with a smile on her face.
"Today is a great day for our country," Pelosi said. "It's a victory, what happened on the floor is a victory for the American people, for our seniors, for Americans with disabilities, for our children, for our veterans."
Pelosi was the House speaker when Obamacare, officially known as the Affordable Care Act, was signed into law by former President Barack Obama seven years ago.
The American Health Care Act, which had been the House GOP's answer to replacing the 2010 healthcare law, was scheduled to be voted on Friday afternoon before Ryan pulled the plug.
"It is about our country and vision of our founders," Pelosi said of keeping the current healthcare law in place. "It is about our faith and about the unity of the Democrats united by our values."
