A spokesman for Donald Trump pushed back Thursday on immigration hard-liner Kris Kobach's claim the president-elect's advisers are weighing the merits of a registry for immigrants from Muslim countries.

In a statement tweeted out by CNN reporter Jim Acosta, Trump's communications director Jason Miller declared Trump has "never advocated for any registry or system that tracks individuals based on their religion, and to imply otherwise is completely false."

Kobich, Kansas' secretary of state and a Trump adviser, told Reuters this week transition policy advisers are weighing the merits of such a registry, saying the policy could be recommended as part of initial executive orders "so that Trump and the Department of Homeland Security hit the ground running."
