Trump Says Wall Will Be Harder to Climb Than Mt. Everest

The wall that will be built along the U.S.-Mexico border will be harder to climb than Mt. Everest, President Donald Trump said during an appearance before a joint conference of the Major County Sheriffs and Major Cities Chiefs Association.

"I can promise you this: I will never waver from my sacred duty to defend this nation and its people," Trump said. "We will get the job done. The wall is very, very on its way. It's happening, as we speak . . ."

"And it's a big wall. It's a strong wall, and it's a wall that people aren't going through very easily. You going to have to be in extremely good shape to get over this one. They would be able to climb Mt. Everest a lot easier, I think. But it's happening."

At 29,000 feet, Mt. Everest is the world's highest mountain above sea level.

Trump is expected to sign the funding deal agreed on by Democrats and Republicans to avoid a government shutdown.

The deal will not include Trump's requested $5.7 billion in border funding, but the president tweeted a wall will be built with additional border security funds from other areas in the bill.

The agreement would allocate $1.38 billion for 55 miles of physical barriers along the Rio Grande Valley of the U.S.-Mexico border.
